What to expect in this course
Course Description
This program includes a wealth of information that will prepare its students with a solid foundation in the ethical and philosophical underpinnings of the yoga practice as well as knowledge of the physical and subtle bodies that will allow them to lead safe and effective yoga practices. In addition to fundamental information concerning Ayurveda and the doshas, the various yogic Models of the Self, and the history, language, and culture of Yoga, this Adaptive Yoga Teacher Training is focused specifically on equipping its instructors with knowledge that will allow them to work with special populations, including, but not limited to, prenatal women and seniors as well as more specific populations dealing with:
· Depression and Anxiety
· PTSD from a variety of types of trauma
· Recovery from addiction or abuse
· Chronic Pain
· Cancer
· Yoga throughout the lifespan
With strong foundations in functional movement and adaptive sequencing, this training will prepare students to tailor a yoga practice to meet the needs of the individuals they are working with, whether they are beginners or seasoned practitioners.
Course Goals
The principal goal of this course is to create knowledgeable and proficient yoga instructors and to assist each student in creating a meaningful and long-lasting relationship with the self, with others, and with the practice of yoga. Using the principles of svadhyaya - self-study or introspection - and tapas - discipline - this program will prepare its students to create deep connections to the lifestyle and practice of yoga, which will further equip them to assist others in finding these connections. We assert that that the most valuable quality of an Adaptive Yoga instructor is the ability to deeply connect with the individuals they serve, and this program aims to nurture and develop that specific characteristic in its students.
COMMITMENT TO SAFE COMMUNITY
At the Space Yoga Institute of Health and Wellness, we firmly believe that healing and learning cannot take place within the structure of a hierarchy. As a participant in this program, you become a member of our in-person and/or virtual sangha – or community – and you therefore hold certain responsibilities to others in the group. The practice of yoga has a transformative power that may bring up physical, emotional, psychological, or spiritual pains; you may find yourself crying without reason or experiencing a remarkable moment of lucidity. Together, it is our responsibility to hold safe space for each other and to validate whatever experiences may arise. Creating and holding safe space is essential to our mission at the Space Yoga Institute of Health and Wellness but also of utmost importance in this Adaptive Yoga Teacher Training. Please take your time reading each of the ground rules of this training, and acknowledge your agreement by clicking "I agree".
